Praying for vibrant faith in Grenada

October 30, 2024

Grenada, a nation where over 90% of the population identifies as Christian, faces a complicated combination of faith and societal challenges. Despite the high percentage of Christians, many struggle with a vibrant and genuine faith, often adhering to religious rituals and ceremonies and lacking deep engagement with God’s Word. This disconnection is reflective of broader cultural shifts that have resulted in significant moral and family issues including:

  • Economic hardship: Widespread poverty, made worse by hurricanes and natural disasters, leaves many struggling with food insecurity and unemployment. This economic hardship is compounded by a significant diaspora, with as many as twice the island’s population living abroad. This migration has further strained local resources and family structures.
  • Decline in traditional values: There has been a steady decline in traditional values, marked by increasing acceptance of sexual promiscuity and a troubling rate of teenage pregnancies. These issues are symptoms of a broader cultural shift away from foundational moral principles.
  • Impact of economic migration: The necessity for men to seek work abroad has led to nearly half of the households being led by women. This shift has profound implications for family dynamics and the broader community.

As we pray for God’s Word to reach more people in the Bahamas, let’s also ask God to guide the Christian community as they address moral decline. Pray for God’s guidance over church leaders so Grenada’s churches are empowered to make a lasting difference in their communities.
