Setting our minds on things above
October 03, 2024
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. -Colossians 3:1-4
The world has a way of getting us down. Distractions, frustrations, temptations, fears often weigh on us—for some, even daily. These struggles can overshadow our spiritual focus and lead us away from the peace and joy found in Christ. A listener in South Korea experienced this firsthand until he hopped on the Bible Bus. Here’s his story:
“I have listened to your teachings but never really applied them. When my job became unstable, my wife and I quarreled frequently, and nothing seemed to bring me joy. I realized something had to change. When you began teaching from Colossians 3, I understood that while we live on this earth, our focus should not be on worldly things. This insight was life changing. I now pray to focus only on God’s Word and am learning to embrace heavenly values and hopes. I desire to live as a righteous and holy worshipper rather than being attached to worldly idols. Scripture tells me only God can help me do this. Please pray for me.”
What a great reminder. Let’s pray Colossians 3:1-4 and ask God to help us keep our hearts focused on Him instead of the things that derail us from living our lives for Him.
Father, thank You for making it possible to have a precious relationship with Your Son, Jesus. Help us understand what it means to be seated with Him in heavenly places. Set our hearts on the wonderful things You have prepared for those that love You and, more and more, may we be a reflection of You to everyone in our lives. In the name of Jesus, amen.
Taiwan is often described as spiritually dark. Pray with us tomorrow as we ask for God’s light to shine through the country.
