God’s Word brings a family in Kenya back together
December 19, 2023
“Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” -Matthew 1:23
The Bible is not silent about family pain and betrayal:
- Cain killed Abel.
- Abraham put his wife’s life in danger.
- Jacob deceived in order to steal his brother’s blessing.
- Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery.
- Lot offered his daughters to be ravaged.
- Sarah hatched a plan for Hagar to bear her children—and then abused her in jealous anger when she did.
However, Jesus offers to heal these wounds and give us His peace. That’s the message Mary found as she hopped aboard the Bible Bus in Kenya. Here’s her story:
“I knew about the Bible, but thought it was a historical book. I was so wrong. After listening to your teaching, I experienced a significant transformation. God’s Word on forgiveness and love touched me deeply. In turn, I was able reconcile with a couple long-estranged family members. As I understood God’s forgiveness of me, I was able to offer forgiveness to others.”
Isn’t this a great story? Today let’s celebrate how God heals wounds and brings families back together. We can thank Him, too, for His love that delivers us from hurt when reconciliation isn’t possible. No matter what, His Word tells us that He is Immanuel. He is with us. Nothing can separate us from His love.
“I was a street boy, and now I’m the son of a King.” That’s the story we hear tomorrow in Ethiopia. We’ll see you there.
