We can’t do it on our own
June 12, 2023
“A life that pleases God must be lived in His power and not ours. The Holy Spirit’s job is to deliver us from frustration and failure.” -Dr. J. Vernon McGee, from our Romans Bible Companion
We can’t do it on our own. It’s something many of us have discovered as we’ve traveled through God’s Word on the Bible Bus, and it what’s Alejandro in Mexico recently came to terms with, too. He shares:
“I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the wisdom you share from God’s Word. Through your program I understand that the Holy Spirit is the one that opens the Scriptures and the one who helps me live in a godly way. I was trying to do it on my own, and it just wasn’t working. I felt like I was caught in a horrible cycle of trying and falling short and then trying again. Now I have a new perspective. My problems seem small, and I am free to enjoy my time going through the Bible with you. I have found some victory over bad habits and am feeling confident about what God is doing in my life.”
It’s true, when we look at our hardships in light of eternity, they seem like a light thing compared to the “eternal weight of glory” we will enjoy with Him (see 2 Corinthians 4:17). Today pray for our fellow Bible Bus passengers in Mexico and beyond. May they, too, experience the freedom and strength that comes by allowing God’s Spirit to direct their lives.
